How it Happened:
• York traveled to Salisbury for the first time on Wednesday since defeating the Sea Gulls in the Capital Athletic Conference championship last season. Salisbury looked ready to avenge that loss by scoring twice in the first two minutes. Hunter Davis was the first to score for York, cutting the lead in half. Salisbury would score again a minute later, and Austin Glab quickly responded to make it 3-2 after seven minutes.
• But then, in a span of just three minutes, the Sea Gulls ripped off three consecutive goals to go up 6-2. Matt Whitcher scored for York with 31 seconds left in the first quarter, but Salisbury had York doubled in the opening period, 6-3.
• The two teams each scored twice in the second quarter, York getting their goals from leading scorer Brendan McGrath and Joseph Joseph. The Spartans trailed 8-5 at the halftime break.
• After Dillon Hannah scored in the third quarter, York trailed 9-6, but then Salisbury scored four consecutive goals to go up 13-6 and put the Spartans away for good. Glab scored on an extra-man opportunity with three seconds left in the quarter but the damage was done.
• Facing a six-goal deficit to start the fourth, York couldn't jumpstart an immediate comeback. Salisbury, actually, opened the quarter with the first four goals, extending the lead to 17-7. Cameron Leech, Davis and Joseph would notch late goals for the Spartans, but it wasn't enough to take down the top-seeded team in the nation, despite how even the numbers were throughout the night.
