How It Happened:

• The first quarter featured stout defense and limited offense as both teams struggled to find their offensive rythum. The Spartans fired the game's opening salvo with an unassisted Cameron Leech goal 2:31 into the game. The Bobcats answered almost immediately as Chris Santina found the back of the cage a mere 22 seconds later knotting the game at one. That proved to be the extend of the offense as the two goalies, York's Landry Marshall and Frostburg's Jack Marks, took over. Marshall recorded five first quarter saves to keep the game tied at one after the first 15 minutes of play.

• The second quarter saw the Spartan offense find their footing. Junior Matt Whitcher unleashed a wicked shot that beat Marks at the 8:14 mark as York took a 2-1 lead. Hunter Davis then had a nifty shot that banked in off the far post and into the goal for the 3-1 York advantage with 5:24 remaining in the half. Dillon Hannah made it 4-1 as he scored off a Whitcher assist as York took a three goal advantage to the break.

• The third quarter was almost a mirror of the offensively challenged first quarter. York went up 5-1 when Brendan McGrath scored off another Whitcher pass with 9:31 left in the third. The Bobcats answered with an Adam Goss tally at the 3:26 mark. The Spartans were fortunate that the Bobcats didn't get more as they spent a majority of the period playing defense.

• The Spartans opened the fourth with Leech's second goal of the game 4:33 into the period, giving York a 6-2 lead. York ended up needing that key goal as the Bobcats ripped off three straight goals to make the game incredibly interesting. Paul Ruppert scored at the 9:20 mark and Jake Bowling notched an unassisted goal with 5:03 left. Ruppert pulled Frostburg to within one with a goal with 1:22 remaining in regulation. Billy Sasso won the ensuing face off as the Spartans killed off the remainder of the game.

Spartan Game Notes:

York improves to 6-1 all-time against the Bobcats as York has won two straight in the series … the six goals were a season-low for the Spartans … sophomore goalie Landry Marshall just missed reaching his career high with saves as he had 16 in the win … his previous high came in the 9-8 double overtime loss to Lynchburg as he recorded 17 stops in that game … Marshall now has three double digit saves games for the year (17 vs. Lynchburg, 11 vs. Nazareth and 16 vs. Frostburg) … Marshall notched his highest second highest save percentage of the year at 76.2% … the Spartans did not have a man up opportunity for just the second time this year as Frostburg's last penalty came inside the final 56 seconds … for just the second time this year, the Spartans lost the battle at the X as the Bobcats won 9-of-15 face offs in the game … York's 24 ground balls tied for a season low (24 vs. Nazareth) … the Spartans had just 28 shots in the game, a season low while the Green and White had 14 shots on goal, also a season low … the Spartans continue to excel on the clear as they went 18-for-20 for the game as their season percentage sits at 91.6% … the Spartans were picked to finish second in the Capital Athletic Conference preseason poll while the Bobcats were selected to finish third by the league's coaches.

He Said It:

"I feel like we were very fortunate to win today," said Spartan head coach Brandon Childs. "I don't think either team played great lacrosse today but we made just enough plays to pull it out."
