How it Happened:
• Stevenson opened the scoring just over three minutes into the game as Kyle D'Onofrio recorded an unassisted goal to seize the 1-0 lead. Austin Glab continued his outstanding weekend with a goal off a pass from Cameron Leech to open the scoring for York with 10:50 left in the opening quarter. Thomas Pfeiffer recorded a man-up goal off a pass from Brendan McGrath, making it 2-1 York with 7:43 left in the first. The Mustangs ripped off three goals to close the opening quarter scoring. The three Stevenson goals came in a mere 57 seconds as they took a 4-2 lead.
• Stevenson got a Bryce Spruill goal 5:09 into the second quarter, increasing the Mustang lead to 5-2. The Spartans snapped the four-goal Mustang run with a Matt Whitcher tally off a loose ball with 8:20 left in the half. Glab made it 5-4 Stevenson when he notched the final goal of the half with 4:56 remaining on the clock.
• The opening eight minutes of the second half was bereft of scoring as neither team was able to sustain any significant offensive thrust. The Mustangs finally broke the second half seal with a D'Onofrio goal with 6:56 remaining in the quarter. McGrath answered that goal 48 seconds later as Leech notched another assist to cut York's deficit to 6-5. Kyle Karsian pushed the Mustang lead back to two with a man-up goal with 5:55 left in the quarter. That's when the Spartan offense got cranked up. York closed the quarter with three straight goals including a Hunter Davis man-up goal with 1:33 left in the quarter. Pfeiffer gave York an 8-7 lead with his goal with 42 seconds left in the period.
• York kept the momentum rolling as they scored the first three goals of the fourth to take an 11-7 lead. Whitcher, McGrath, and Davis each scored as the Spartans put a stranglehold on the game. Thelen closed out the scoring with a Mustang goal with 3:25 left in the game. Thelen's goal snapped a scoreless streak of 17:30 for the Mustangs.
