#4 Spartans Cruise Past SVU In Saturday CAC Contest

Box Score

YORK, PA – The York College men's lacrosse team rebounded from Friday's disappointing loss at #20 Stevenson with a convincing 14-6 Capital Athletic Conference win over Southern Virginia on a brisk Saturday in York. The Spartans improve to 13-2 overall and 6-0 in the CAC while the Knights fall to 5-9 overall and 2-6 in the conference.

How it happened:

• The Spartans got off to another great start as they scored all six goals in the first quarter to assert themselves early. Cameron Leech opened the scoring with his ninth goal of the year 2:13 into the game.

Joe Lomady and Andrew Gamble each scored a goal within 36 seconds of each other midway through the quarter, putting York up 3-0.

Matt Whitcher and defender Josh Kluver scored 29 seconds apart as the York lead grew to 5-0 with 2:58 left in the first.

• Whitcher scored his second goal of the first quarter with 1:16 left as the Spartan lead grew to 6-0.

Ryan Cook opened the second quarter scoring with an unassisted tally 2:51 into the period.

• Freshman Hunter Davis made it 8-0 off a feed from Gamble as the Green and White offense continued to click.

• The Knights got on the board 5:53 before the half as Casey Rich scored his 41st goal of the year, a man-down goal off the face off after Davis' goal.

• Freshman Nick Magnusson closed out the first half scoring with a goal at the 1:19 mark prior to the intermission.

• York continued to pull away in the third quarter as they ripped off the first four goals of the quarter to push their lad to 13-1. Davis, Dillon Hannah, Lomady, and Thomas Pfeiffer each scored for York during the run.

• Southern Virginia scored the final goal of the third quarter to halt the run as Zach Danneman notched a goal off a Brady Cook pass.

• The Knights got four cosmetic goals in the fourth quarter against the Spartan reserves as York pulled their starting defense, a defense that limited SVU to one goal, off the field midway through the third quarter. Southern Virginia got three goals from Casey Rich to provide for the final 14-6 margin of victory.
