Fourth-Ranked Spartans Earn CAC Road Win at #20 Frostburg

FROSTBURG, Md. – The No. 4 York College men's lacrosse team went on the road for a tough Capital Athletic Conference matchup with No. 20 Frostburg State on Saturday night at Bobcat Stadium and came out with an 8-4 victory to remain undefeated in conference play and hand Frostburg its first home loss of the season after seven-straight wins.

How it happened:

  • Patiently waited for a good look and then Nick Magnusson ripped a shot over his defender on a step back fade away shot from the left wing
  • Then Thomas Pfeiffer finished from close range to put the Spartans ahead 2-0.
  • Hunter Davis also put a goal on the board in the first quarter to extend the lead to 3-0.
  • Davis opened the scoring in the second quarter as he pulled up in transition and ripped a laser to the back of the net.
  • Frostburg broke its scoreless drought as Tate Rolland fed Blake Grudzien who was waiting on the doorstep for the goal.
  • The Bobcats then shocked York with another goal immediately after their first as they won the face-off and Adam Gross finished for the goal on the fast break.
  • Austin Glab got York back on the board as he wrapped around form behind net and ripped a fade away shot to put the Spartans ahead 5-2.
  • Magnusson kept the momentum going as he finished from the far right wing with a defender right his face as York held a 6-2 lead heading into the break.
  • The Bobcats had a great start to the second half as they scored within the first minute cut the deficit to three goals
  • Cameron Leech responded for York as he ripped a shot from the far left wing through traffic to open the second half scoring and put York ahead 7-3.
  • Frostburg then got one more goal on the board before the third quarter ended as leading-scorer Spenser Love tallied a goal with two seconds left
  • The Spartans owned the fourth quarter as they held Frostburg to just one productive possession and Dillon Hannah iced the game with a goal with 5:33 left to play to put York up 8-4 at that points.

York is now 4-1 against USILA top-20 teams this season … this was the first meeting between these two programs with each being ranked in the top-20 nationally … today's matchup featured two top-10 nationally-ranked defenses with Frostburg allowing 5.67 goals per game and York giving up 6.27 goals per game coming into the contest … Frostburg's four goals today is fewest the Bobcats have scored this season, while York's eight goals is the third-most Frostburg has allowed this season … Frostburg's Erik Geiser, who has ranked in the top-five among face-off men in Division III, was held to under 10 face-off wins for just the fourth time this season … the Bobcats as a team tied their season-low for face-off wins … Gamble extends his point streak to 12 games with assist today as he now has 199 points for his career and will become just the second player in program history to reach 200 career points … Hannah also kept his 12-game point streak in tact with his goal today … Glab extended his goal streak to 10 games with his goal today … Hunter Davis has points in 11 of the team's 12 games and has scored multiple goals in six games.
