YORK, Pa.  – The York College softball team earned its sixth doubleheader split of the month with Monday's non-conference twin bill at home against McDaniel College.

How It Happened: 

• McDaniel put together a big first inning and rode that momentum all the way to the finish.
• The Green Terror hung five runs on the board on just two hits in the first half inning as they received some help from Spartan defense with a pair of errors.
• McDaniel loaded the bases and proceeded to score all five runs on a walk, a hit batter, a ground out and a throwing error.
• The Green Terror tacked on another run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly.
• The Spartans scattered just four hits throughout the seven innings of play.

How It Happened: 

• The Spartans got busy in the first inning by putting two runs on the board. Werner roped a triple to center field and advanced home after the McDaniel second baseman air-mailed her throw into the Spartan dugout. Later in the inning, Hirn blasted a bomb over the scoreboard in left field when there were two outs recorded.
• Marmo hit a stinger through the left side in the third inning to drive in Hirn and Savannah Zittle to put York ahead 4-0. Zittle led off the inning with a single, while Hirn reached on a walk.
• McDaniel made some noise in the top of the fifth when Carly Deichman singled to left field to drive in Tayler Hishon who reached on a triple.
• The Spartans got the run back in the bottom of fifth frame when Ruleman singled up the middle to drive in Maloney who singled and then stole second.
