Box Score 2 FROSTBURG, MD – The York College Spartan softball squad split their final Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader of the year at Frostburg State University on Saturday in Frostburg, Maryland. The Spartans won game one 3-1 before the Bobcats came back and earned the split with a 4-1 victory in the nightcap.

How It Happened:
• The Bobcats opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning. Renay Aubel double to right to open the frame. Taylor Blevins then singled up the middle and moved to second on the throw to the plate. Blevins was cut down at third trying to advance on a ground ball to short for the first out of the inning. Melissa Jurkiewicz got a strikeout and a fly out to avoid any further damage in the inning.
• York leveled the score at one when Jurkiewicz drew a lead off walk. After the Bobcats got a pair of outs, Jurkiewicz stole second and scored on a Savannah Zittle single to left.
• York took the lead in the top of the sixth as Katie Maloney laid down a bunt single and advanced to third on a throwing error to lead off the inning. Haley Hirn lifted a sacrifice fly to right to score Maloney with the eventual winning run.
• York got their third run in the seventh as Jurkiewicz walked, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a Frostburg State error for the 3-1 Spartan lead.
• Frostburg got the tying run on base in the seventh but Jurkiewicz got a line out to second to end the game.

Game One Notes: The Spartans got three runs on just three hits with one error while the Bobcats had one run on seven hits with two errors … York did not have an extra base hit in the game … the 24th win for the Spartans surpasses last year's 23 wins … the 24 wins are the most since the 2010 squad went 36-9.

How It Happened:
• York got on the board in the top of the fourth courtesy of a Haley Hirn solo shot to left to lead off the inning. The tater was Hirn's fourth of the year.
• The Bobcats answered with a big fifth inning as they tallied three runs on four hits in the frame. Lauren Capece had an RBI double to center. Later in the inning Taylor Blevins had an RBI single to second. Hannah Tavik closed out the scoring in the inning with an RBI single up the middle.
• Frostburg State closed out the scoring with another Capece RBI double.

Game Two Notes: York got a run on five hits with two errors while the Bobcats got four runs on six hits with an error … junior Carleigh Ruleman became the 17th Spartan to reach 100 career hits with her sixth inning single … she is the second Spartan to join the 100 career hit club this season as Katie Maloney reached the milestone earlier this year … York finished the year 7-7 in the CAC as they will be the fourth seed in the upcoming CAC Tournament.
What's Next: The Spartans return to action on Monday when they host McDaniel College in a non-conference doubleheader at Spartan Stadium. The doubleheader will conclude the Spartans' 2016 regular season. Game one is set for a 3:00 pm start. York will head to the CAC Championship tournament on Thursday when they face Mary Washington in the tournament's opening game at 10:00 am. The site of the CAC tournament will be determined on Sunday with the final CAC games of the regular season.
