#1 Salisbury Rolls to 17-5 Victory Over #7 Spartans in CAC Clash

YORK, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's lacrosse team proved its No. 1 national ranking is no fluke as the Sea Gulls handed the No. 7 Spartans their first home loss of the season with a 17-5 decisive victory on Wednesday afternoon. The Sea Gulls also handed York its first Capital Athletic Conference loss of the season as the matchup featured of the last two remaining teams with unblemished CAC records.

How it happened:

  • Salisbury put the first goal on the board less than four minutes into the opening quarter.
  • York answered back a little over a minute later as Nick Magnusson set up Thomas Pfeiffer to tie the score 1-1.
  • The Sea Gulls responded 30 seconds later as Carson Kalama notched his second tally of the game. Then 10 seconds later, Brady Dashiell recorded another SU goal to quickly put the Sea Gulls up 4-1
  • It was all Salisbury to end the first quarter and the first half as SU took an 8-1 lead into halftime. The Sea Gulls displayed excellent accuracy and shot selection as they put 11 of their 14 first-half shots on goal.
  • Andrew Gamble put York on the board in the second half as he created his own shot on a wraparound from close range. At that point York trailed 10-2 late in the third quarter.
  • Salisbury opened the fourth quarter with three straight goals within the first five minutes.
  • The Spartans managed to tack on three goals in the last 10 minutes of play, but each time they were matched by a Sea Gull goal. Dillon Hannah recorded two points during that stretch with a goal and an assist, while Hunter Davis and Magnusson recorded the other two goals.

Game Notes:

This was the second meeting between these two teams in which both were ranked in the USILA top-20 and the first meeting in which both were ranked in the top-10 … this was the 12th meeting in which Salisbury was ranked No. 1 … Salisbury recorded a shot percentage of 51.5 and a shot-on-goal percentage of 75.8 … York recorded a shot percentage of 17.2 and a shot-on-goal percentage of 69.0 … Katchmark tied his own school record with 20 face-off wins … York has recorded 20 or more face-off wins just twice this season … Gamble extends his point streak to 16-straight games with his goal in today's game … Hannah also kept his 16-game point streak in tact with a goal and an assist today as he a goal and an assist in each of the last four games … Davis has points in all but one game this season as added his 23rd goal of the season today … Kluver tied his career-high for the second time this season with seven ground balls as he has recorded 17 ground balls in the last three games … with today's game, Gamble and Kluver became the program's all-time leaders in games played with 73 each.

 

What's Next

York wraps up the regular season a trip to Christopher Newport on Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. game. The winner of that game will capture the second seed and a first-round bye in the CAC Tournament.
