Box Score 2 DOVER, DEL – The York College Spartan softball squad began a weekend road trip by splitting a pair of Capital Athletic Conference games at Wesley College on Sunday afternoon. The Wolverines stunned the Spartans with a 3-2 win in the opener before the Green and White bounced back with an 8-0 win in five innings in the nightcap.
Game One

How It Happened:
• The Spartans opened the scoring in the top of the first as Ashley Werner tripled and scored on a Joanna Marmo sacrifice fly to center. Marmo reached when the center fielder dropped the ball for an error but Wesley got out of the jam as Marmo was stranded on second.
• The Wolverines got that run back plus one in the bottom of the first. The big blow came on a two-out, two-run triple to left center from Nina Marcano as the Wolverines took a 2-1 lead.
• The two offenses would be quiet until Wesley got a run in the bottom of the fifth as Marcano singled home Kayla Fromal from third.
• York got one run back in the sixth as Haley Hirn singled and then scored on Carleigh Ruleman's RBI double to left centerfield. Ruleman moved to third with one out but York had two cracks and couldn't get her home from third as the Spartans trailed 3-2.
• York went in order in the ninth with a strikeout and two fly outs to fall in game one. It is the first loss to Wesley in Spartan softball history.

Game One Notes: The Spartans got two runs on seven hits with no errors while the Wolverines got three runs on seven hits with one error … York has now lost three straight double header openers … the loss to Wesley snaps an 18-game win streak against the Wolverines … York had never lost to the Wolverines in a Capital Athletic Conference contest.

How It Happened:
• York jumped out to an early lead as Savannah Zittle opened the game with a double to right center. After a pop out and a flyout to right moved Zittle to third, she scored on a wild pitch with two outs. Haley Hirn drew a walk and scored on a Carleigh Ruleman RBI double to center. The Spartans would load the bases with two outs but Wesley got a ground out to end the threat.
• York made it 3-0 as Katie Maloney scored on a Joanna Marmo RBI single to center.
• The Spartans tacked on two runs in the top of the fourth as Ashley Werner scored on a wild pitch and Ruleman plated Hirn with an RBI double as York's lead grew to 5-0.
• York closed out the game with a three-run outburst in the top of the fifth. Ashley Werner ripped a two run double to right center and then came around to score on consecutive wild pitches for York's eighth run of the game.

What's Next: The Spartans return to action on Monday as they travel to nationally ranked Salisbury University for a make up doubleheader. The twin bill was originally scheduled for Saturday but was pushed to Monday due to the weather on Saturday. Game one is scheduled for 12:30 pm.
