How It Happened

• The Spartans pressured the Southern Virginia defense early and often in the first half. The Spartans had three corner kicks and three shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes of the game but failed to find the back of the net.

• The Spartans dominated the first half as they outshot SVU 8-0 and had a 6-1 bulge in corner kicks.

• The second half was much of the same as the Green and White continued to pepper the Knights' defense without a result. The Spartans outshot SVU 9-3 in the second half while they also had a 4-0 margin in corner kicks.

• Junior Joel Teston ended the game 5:43 in when he received a long pass from Marc Murgo, turned in the box, beat one defender then slotted a shot inside the back post for the game-winner. The goal was the first of the year for the All-CAC forward.

Match Notes:

The Spartans improve to 4-0 all-time against the Knights … the game was a departure from the 2015 match up which York won 9-0 as Joel Teston had eight points on three goals and two assists … the Spartans have outscored Southern Virginia 22-1 in their four all-time meetings .. Teston's goal snapped a Spartan scoreless streak of 387:38 … the shutout is the third for senior goalie Charlie Johnson … Johnson now has 21 career wins for the Green and White … the shutout is Johnson's 12th career clean sheet … the win is just York's second on the road as they are now 2-5-2 … the Spartans have fired off a combined 41 shots in the last two games but only have one goal to show for it … the Spartans' 11 corner kicks in the game was their second highest total of the year, just one behind the 12 York took against Randolph in their season opener on September 1.
