Men’s Soccer Rolls Past Stevenson to Clinch Postseason Berth

YORK, Pa. - The York men's soccer team closed out the regular season with a convincing 3-1 victory over Stevenson at home on Saturday in the regular season finale.

With the win, the Spartans secured a spot in the Commonwealth Men's Soccer Championship. York will be the three seed in the upcoming four-team tournament.

Stevenson 10-6-2 (4-2-1 MACC)
York 8-5-6 (3-2-2 MACC)

How It Happened
The Spartans held a 2-0 advantage in total shots before breaking through in the 26th minute of play. Tannor Wiszneski found a crease up the right side and threw a shot on goal that was saved, but Wiszneski collected his own rebound and sent it home for his third tally of the season.

York survived a flurry of chances by Stevenson with a save by Chase Broughman and a pair of near misses by the Mustangs. The Spartans made those missed opportunities hurt even worse for Stevenson as Aiden Hall extended the York lead to 2-0 in the 34th minute after intercepting a pass on a failed clearing attempt and scoring his second goal of the season.

Three minutes into the second half, York extended the lead to 3-0 on Tyler Napier's first goal of the season. Talen Popolis set up Napier for the goal with a throw-in deep into the box where Napier headed the pass inside the left post.

The Mustangs responded just four minutes later when Ellis Amo tapped in a loose ball on a deflection in front of the goal.

Broughman denied Amo a minute later in the 53rd minute which would stand as the last shot on goal for the Mustangs for the game.

Up Next
The Spartans have a rematch with the Mustangs on Wednesday in Owings Mills, Md. in a Commonwealth semifinal tilt.
