Box Score ST. MARY'S CITY, MD – The York College men's lacrosse team ripped off 11 straight goals en route to a 17-4 blowout of St. Mary's College in Capital Athletic Conference play on Wednesday afternoon in St. Mary's City, Maryland.
The Spartans have now won four straight as they improve to 7-4 overall and 3-0 in the conference. The Seahawks fall to 3-5 overall and now sit at 2-2 in the league.
The first quarter was highly competitive as the teams traded their first two goals before the Spartans took a temporary 3-2 lead on an Andrew Gamble (Easton, Md./Easton) man up goal with 5:18 left in the quarter. The Seahawks tied the score at the end of the quarter on an Eric Simon tally at the horn as the two teams ended the first 15 minutes tied at three.
That's when the Spartan offense took off and the defense clamped down. The Spartans outscored the Seahawks 4-0 in the second quarter as York pushed out to a 7-3 halftime lead.
The run continued in the third quarter as York's Christopher Lees (Barto, Pa./Boyertown), in his first game back after suffering a pre-season injury, found the back of the net for his first goal of the year. York got back-to-back man up goals as the lead grew to 10-3 with 10:02 left in the third. York closed out the period with two more goals as the Spartan lead grew to 12-3.
York capped the historic run with the first two goals of the fourth quarter before the Seahawks scored to halt the run at 11. The Spartans finished the game with three more goals including two more on the man-up to provide for the final 13-goal margin of victory.
York got another huge day from senior All-American Tyler Hutson (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) as the reigning CAC Offensive Player of the Week, notched seven more points on three goals and four assists. Hutson also picked up three ground balls for York. Dillon Hannah (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) registered a career-high five goals while Dan Kaplan (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) recorded a career-high six points on four goals and two assists. Gamble added three points on a pair of goals and an assist with two ground balls. Freshman Ryan Cook (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) contributed a career-high four points on a goal and three assists.
Sophomore Jake Katchmark (Centreville, Va./Westfield) was outstanding at the X as he was 15-for-20 on the day while he also recorded a team-high four ground balls.
Eric Simon led the Seahawks as he notched two goals while Greg Louzan and Matt Carney each added single tallies for the hosts.
Caleb Abney (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) earned the win as he made ten saves and allowed just three goals in his 40:56 of work. James Anderson (Pasadena, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) played 12 minutes and registered three saves and allowed one goal. Landy Marshall (Brookeville, Md./Glenelg) played the final 7:04 of the game and notched two saves for York.
Joey Casey started the game for St. Mary's and allowed 12 goals with nine saves in his 45 minutes of work. Max Alderman played the final 15 minutes, allowing five goals with two saves.
The Spartans finished the game outshooting the Seahawks 42-27 while the Green and White also held a 27-20 margin in ground balls. York won 17-of-24 face offs while they also went a staggering 7-for-10 on the man advantage in the win.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday when they face nationally ranked Frostburg State in a Capital Athletic Conference game. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 pm at Kinsley Field.
