Teston and Lundgaard Combine to Forge A Road Tie for York

Box Score

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – York College freshman Joel Teston (Manassas, Va./Forest Park) knocked home a game-tying goal with just 48 seconds left in regulation as the Spartans forced a 2-2 double overtime tie at North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday.

Teston's goal came just 11 seconds after the Bishop's Julius Oskarsson had given the hosts a very brief 2-1 lead. The 11 seconds between the goals is tied for the fifth fastest consecutive goals by opponents in NCAA Division III history.

The Spartans fell behind early as Oskarsson opened the scoring in the 11th minute. The freshman forward dribbled into the box and banged a shot to the left of Spartan keeper Charlie Johnson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin). The Spartans eventually tied the game in the 34th minute when Teston settled a pass into the box with his chest to set up Peter Lundgaard (Greenville, Del./Salesianum) who finished the chance, tying the game at one. The goal was Lundgaard's first of the year.

After Oskarsson gave the Bishops' the 2-1 lead with his fourth goal of the young year, Lundgaard returned the favor to Teston as he assisted the game-winning tally for the Green and White.

Johnson was credited with three saves in the tie, as the Spartans are now 0-1-2 through three games. Jesper Olsson was credited with the tie as he came on in relief of starter Alex Manger, playing the final 105 of the game. Olsson recorded four saves in his time in net for the Bishops who are now 2-1-1.

The Spartans outshot the Bishops 18-8 but just 6-5 in shots on goal. The Green and White held an 8-2 margin in corner kicks.

The game was a physical one as there were a combined 32 fouls and ten combined yellow cards.

The Spartans return to Graham Field on Wednesday afternoon when they host Alvernia University in a non-conference contest. Kick off is set for 4:00 pm in York.
