Box Score YORK, Pa. – A second-half tally by junior forward Peter Lundgaard (Greenville, Del./Salesianum) proved to be all the York College men's soccer team needed as the Spartans handed Johns Hopkins its first defeat of the season by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday evening at Graham Field.
Lundgaard's 71st minute game-winner came after he chipped the ball over his defender near the top of the box, then dribbled to the right past the goalie for a clear shooting lane at the goal.
The junior striker now has three of York's (2-1-3) five total goals on the season and has a team-leading seven points with one assist.
York's offense supplied a sufficient amount of pressure early and throughout the contest, as evidence for its 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. However, with only two shots on goal, the offensive unit struggled to capitalize on its many chances.
On the defensive side, the Spartans surrendered 13 total shots, four of which were on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper and reigning CAC Defensive Player of the Week Charlie Johnson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) saved all four shots on goal with relative ease as the Spartan defense excelled in limiting the Blue Jays (4-1-1) from getting quality chances in front of the net.
The Spartans will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Misericordia for a 5 p.m. contest.
