Spartans Cruise to First CAC Victory of Season

Box Score

DOVER, Del. – The York College women's soccer team earns its first Capital Athletic Conference win of the season in a convincing 3-1 victory at Wesley on Wednesday night.

The Spartans (5-2-2, 1-0 CAC) recorded their highest shot total of the season with 21, as 13 of those shots were on target.

York got on the board in the 11th minute on a beautifully executed header goal by senior Beth Bunn (Lothian, Md./Calverton School) who was assisted on the play by senior Traci Mohl (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon Catholic) who served the ball in off the corner kick.

Less than five minutes after their first goal, the Spartans tallied their second. This is time is Mohl who notched the tally after receiving a helper from Shyanne Kimbrough (York, Pa./West York) who dribbled to the end line on the left side and passed back to the middle to find the waiting boot of Mohl.

Despite being heavily out-shot and out-possessed through out the entire contest, Wesley (7-3, 0-2) managed to get on the board in the 64th minute and cut the Spartan lead to 2-1.

York added its insurance goal and sealed the victory in the 82nd minute when junior Chelsea McDowell (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) played a free kick into the box from about 40 yards out. Sophomore Jordan Neiheiser (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) got enough on her shot to pop the ball over the out-stretched hands of the Wolverine goalkeeper and the ball bounced its way into the net.

The Spartans dominated the shot column by a margin of 21-4 and held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.

York will return to action on Saturday in a home contest against CAC foe Christopher Newport at noon.
