YORK, Pa. – Kemal Nuspahic's 84th minute goal lifted the #23 York College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan Sunday afternoon in York. The junior forward's first tally of 2010 helps the Spartans snap their two-game losing skid and improve to 5-3 while the Battling Bishops drop to 6-2.

York had little trouble generating scoring opportunities throughout the latter 45 but came up just short on each chance until Nuspahic buried the game-winner.  Centerback Andy Stromberg, who has played well during the early part of this season, served the ball to the forward just outside the right edge of the 18-yard box. Nuspahic collected the cross and cracked a ripper that flew by outstretched Battling Bishop goalkeeper Anthony White and into the left upper 90.

Throughout the entire second half, the Green and White peppered the NC Wesleyan goal as they registered 13 shots in the second half alone.

Despite Nuspahic's brilliant tally and the Spartans' overall consistent offensive pressure, it would turn out to be sophomore goalkeeper Jesse Derksen who could lay claim to the "Man-of-the-Match" title. Of the four attempts that the Battling Bishops recorded in the second half, Derksen made top-notch saves on two of those shots.

In the 48th minute, NC Wesleyan's Javier Castrillo found himself near the left edge of the six-yard box with only Derksen to beat. Castrillo hit a tremendous strike as he attempted to power his shot into the back of the goal. However, the sophomore goalkeeper proved up to the task as he parried away Castrillo's rip for what would turn out to be a harmless corner.

Nearly seven minutes later, Derksen was called upon once again and once again he would come up with a brilliant save. Irvin Herrera broke free behind the Spartan defense and found himself 1v1 with Derksen. The immensely talented York goalkeeper slammed the door shut yet again as he bravely slid to the ball at Herrera's feet, knocking away the shot and retaining the clean sheet.

For the match, the Spartans outshot their guests 17-9 including a 13-4 bulge in the second half. Only two corner kicks were attempted throughout the 90 minutes of play as both sides posted one.

Derksen finished the match with four saves to his credit as he picks up his fourth shutout victory of 2010. White suffers the loss for the Battling Bishops as he falls to 2-1.

Turning now to Wednesday's match, the Green and White officially open their Capital Athletic Conference slate on September 22. In a rematch of last season's CAC Tournament Final, York hosts Stevenson University in a 4:00 pm tilt.
