ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The York College field hockey team suffered a 5-2 loss to Elizabethtown Wednesday afternoon, as the Blue Jays handed York some of its own medicine in fashioning the come-from behind win. With the defeat, the visiting Spartans drop to 8-6 on the year and snap their three-game winning streak. Elizabethtown boosts their 2010 mark to a solid 9-3.

York posted the non-conference tilt's first score as Casey Lawrence recorded her seventh tally of the season. In the 28^th minute, Katie Dawkins somehow found Lawrence during a scrum in front of the Blue Jay goal allowing Lawrence to knock home the opening goal. Lawrence's score, which ties her for the team lead with Sandee Reich, put the Spartans up 1-0 despite being outshot 9-1 and surrendering nine penalty corners by that point in the game.

After Lawrence's tally however, the Green and White seemed to settle down as the Blue Jays only registered one more shot until the 35^th minute. It would be at that point that the home squad began to seize control of the match.

With just 30 seconds remaining in the first half, Liz DeMatteis scored a deflating goal that drew the score level at 1-1. Meg Cassels crossed in a ball that DeMatteis slammed home for her tenth goal of the season.

From there on, the game proved the DeMatteis show as the senior captain scored three more times over the latter 35 minutes.

Just 56 seconds into the second stanza, Cassels and DeMatteis did the same thing they had done just before the halftime whistle, this time giving Elizabethtown a 2-1 advantage.

That lead stretched to 3-1 on DeMatteis' third of the afternoon when she finished off a Caitlin Grimes assist in the 40^th minute.

Down but not out, the Spartans clawed back to within one at the game's 41:03 mark. Senior forward Kelly Kreamer scored for the fourth time this season, finishing off a rebound in front of the Blue Jay goal, leaving the score at 3-2 Elizabethtown.

Alas, there would be no comeback for the Green and White as DeMatteis would strike again for the hosts midway through the 60^th minute. Regaining the two-goal lead, Nadine Yunginger carried the ball down the right side of the field before serving into a pass to the middle of the circle. DeMatteis did as she had done three previous times in this game, knocking in the pass for her fourth goal of the game.

Elizabethtown finished their scoring just 1:13 later as Linsey Fasold tipped in a Julie Foster shot for the Blue Jays' fifth of the afternoon.

All told, Elizabethtown's five goals came by way of 19 shots while York managed only eight. The hosts also held a significant 14-6 lead in penalty corners.

Lindy Hamp records the win in the cage as the Blue jay goalkeeper made three saves on the afternoon. Spartan Lydia Pirie takes the loss as she made seven stops. Maggie Schlauch relieved Pirie for the game's final 5:36 and was not forced to make a save.

York will now look to get back into the win column as the Spartans travel to Mary Washington on Saturday, October 17, in an important Capital Athletic Conference tilt. The CAC action is slated for a 1:00 pm start in Fredericksburg , Va.
