Buffalo, NY – The York College men's soccer team experienced their first regular season blemish since 2007 Saturday evening, drawing 1-1 with host Medaille. With the tie, the #10 Spartans' record moves to 1-0-1 on the season while the Mavericks go to 2-0-1.

After a 0-0 first half, a 45-minute span that saw the Spartans pepper the Maverick net with eight shots, the Green and White drew first blood in the second frame. In the 64th minute, Mike O'Connell (Bowie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) buried an Aaron Good (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area) pass to give the York squad a 1-0 advantage. The tandem connected on a long service from Good which O'Connell headed home for the game's opening salvo.

Less than five minutes later, the hosts' answered with a tally of their own courtesy of a Gary Boughton penalty kick.

Late in the half, the Spartans poured on the pressure with four shots over a brief 3:26 span, forcing Maverick goalkeeper Ryan Goettel into a pair of saves. Despite this flurry of attempts from the Spartan squad in regulation's waning minutes, the match spilled into overtime.

Neither side was able to gain much momentum in the first overtime period, as Medaille recorded the period's only shot – a Kendall McFayden header that sailed harmlessly over the crossbar.

The second extra frame proved all Spartans as York ripped off four shots during the frame. A pair of Maverick blocks, another Goettel save, and a missed target however, left the match at 1-1 draw.

For the game, York held a huge 24-10 bulge in shots, including a 12-attempt showing in the second half. The Spartans also garnered a 6-1 lead in corner kicks.

Freshman Jesse Derksen (York, Pa./Susquehannock) recorded one save in his first start for York as he manned the pipes for all 110 minutes of play. Goettel notched six saves on the evening for the Mavericks, which include his three late-game stops.

Prior to this evening's contest, the Green and White had won 27 straight regular season matches. Despite the less-than-desirable result, the Spartans still maintain their 22-match unbeaten streak and will look to continue that trend next Saturday at the Doug Hamilton Memorial Tournament. The Spartans hit the road for Greensboro, N.C. where they will square off with N.C. Wesleyan on September 12 at noon before taking on host Greensboro in Sunday's finale at 2:30 pm.
