Box Score YORK, PA – Seven different players
recorded goals Wednesday afternoon, as the #3 York College
men's soccer team defeated visiting Gallaudet University 7-0
in Capital Athletic Conference action. With the victory, the
Spartans improve to 8-0-2 (3-0-1 CAC) on the year while increasing
their unbeaten streak to 30 consecutive games. Gallaudet's
loss drops the Bison to 0-11 (0-4) in 2009.
The Green and White wasted little time as Jon Ports
(Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) posted York's opening
salvo a mere 1:20 into the match. Ports received a feed from
Mike Gill (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) across the
top of the box before striking his third tally of the season into
the far right side of the goal.
Mike O'Connell (Bowie, Md./Archbishop
Spalding) notched the Spartans' second tally just
over two minutes later. Aaron Good (Elizabethtown,
Pa./Elizabethtown Area) fed Kemal Nuspahic (East
Petersburg, Pa./Warwick) along the right side of the
field. The sophomore standout then slipped a ball across the face
of Gallaudet's goal where O'Connell one-timed the pass
into the back of the net.
Nuspahic and Gill would register the Spartans next two scores as
the Green and White found themselves up 4-0 less than ten minutes
into the match.
Eric Mackin (Moyock, N.C./Currituck County)
completed York's first half scoring in the 14th minute on a
Justin Suchoski (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) assist
as the senior would post a trio of helpers during the match.
The Spartans would get on the board twice more in the second
half with the first coming 4:17 after the break. In what was
arguably the Spartan's prettiest goal of the game,
Matt Swiderski (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) struck
a pass to Suchoski near the right edge of the box. Suchoski deftly
one-touched a lofted pass toward the left side of the Bison goal.
The senior's pass proved on-target as the ball found the head
of freshman Grant Anikienko (Columbia, Pa./Lancaster
Catholic) who snapped home his first collegiate goal.
Swiderski finished York's scoring effort in the
game's 54th minute while the game was called after the 70th
minute due to darkness.
For the match, the Spartans posted 31 shots while not allowing
their visitors to have an attempt. York also led in corners by a
9-1 margin. Additionally, of the Spartans seven scores, six came by
way of assists including a trio of double-assist efforts.
Freshman Jesse Derksen (York,
Pa./Susquehannock) collects the win in the Spartan net
playing the match's first 8:35. Sophomore Kyle
Connolly (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) was between the pipes for
the final 62:26 as neither York goalkeeper was forced to make a
save. Poloko Qobose performed admirably in the Bison net posting
eight saves over his 71:01 of work including several quality stops.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, October 3, as they
host #4 Christopher Newport in a battle of top-five squads. Game
time from Graham Field is slated for 3:00 pm.
