GREENSBORO, N.C. – The York College men's soccer team exploded for a season-high four goals en route to a 4-0 whitewashing of Greensboro College on Sunday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C. The win allowed the Spartans to win the 2009 Doug Hamilton Memorial Tournament hosted by Greensboro as York was 2-0 for the weekend.

The Spartans improve to 3-0-1 overall as their unbeaten streak is extended to 24 consecutive matches.

York began the attack early as junior Lucas Emil (Parsippany, N.J./Morris Catholic) hit the post just 1:20 into the game. The Spartans would continue their pressure on the Greensboro defense as Mike O'Connell (Bowie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) took advantage of a Greensboro defensive turnover, converting the miscue into a goal as he scored in the 17^th minute. The goal was O'Connell's second of the year.

York increased the led to 2-0 just 2:44 before the half as Justin Suchoski (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) fed freshman Taylor Brummitt (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) for the goal off a nifty passing play inside the box. The goal was the first in Brummitt's career and gave York more breathing room heading to the break.

The Spartans struck for their third goal just 11 minutes into the second half as Emil took a free kick after a Greensboro foul and rocketed the ball into the back of the net from 25 yards out. The goal was Emil's first of the year as the Green and White took stranglehold of the contest.

York got their final goal just 3:02 later as Travis Williams (Springfield, Pa./Springfield Township) converted a penalty kick, giving the Spartans' their final margin of victory. The goal was Williams' second of the year as both have come off PK's.

York finished the game out-shooting Greensboro 16-8 including 9-4 in shots on goal. The visitors also held a significant 10-2 margin in corner kicks for the match.

Freshman Jesse Derksen (York, Pa./Susquehannock) started and played the first 56 minutes as he made three saves for the Spartans. Sophomore Kyle Connolly (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) preserved the clean sheet as he made one save in 34 minutes of action.

Mazi Heydary started for the Pride and allowed all four goals in 72:08 of work. Heydary made three saves while Jacob Wolf made two saves in 17:52 in his relief stint.

Senior forward Jon Ports (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) was named the Tournament MVP for his efforts in the Spartans' championship.

The Spartans make their long awaited home debut on Wednesday afternoon when they host Kean University in a non-conference contest. Game time at Graham Field is set for 4:00 pm.
