SALISBURY, MD - The York College men's lacrosse team dropped at
20-7 result to #1 Salisbury University Thursday afternoon in the
semifinals of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament. The loss
ousts the Spartans (9-7) from the playoffs while the Sea Gulls move
on to Sunday's final sporting a perfect 16-0 mark.
The home squad jumped out to a very early 2-0 lead, scoring
twice in just 34 seconds into the game. York's Mike LaRoque
(Arnold,
Md./DeMatha) got the Spartans on
the board at the 12:16 mark of the first quarter, but that would be
as close as the Spartans would come all game.
Salisbury would rattle off six straight goals before the
Spartans' Josh Gamble
(Easton,
Md./Easton)
was able to find the net on a Chris Norman
(Annapolis,
Md./Broadneck) assist with only
20 seconds remaining in the first stanza. The Sea Gulls' 8-2 first
quarter lead would then be bolstered by a five goal second quarter.
Over the game's second 15 minutes of action, York was unable score
which allowed Salisbury to take a 13-2 lead into the half.
Ryan McNicholas (Fallston, Md./Fallston) lit up
the scoreboard twice in the third frame while Josh Gamble also
tallied in the period. The Sea Gulls however, kept their foot on
the gas and would lead 17-5 after 45 minutes of play.
Norman and T.C. Cooke
(Glenmoore,
Pa./Bishop Shanahan), who tallied
his first collegiate goal, would add a score apiece in the fourth
quarter while Salisbury tacked on three more.
Altogether, the Sea Gulls registered 49 shots to the Spartans'
29. The home squad also led in ground balls 53-35.
McNicholas and Gamble each registered two scores for the
Spartans on the day while Norman had a goal and an assist.
Dan Wood (Montauk, N.Y./East Hampton) led the
Spartans with seven ground balls.
Greg Titus was the game's high scorer as he tallied six times
for the Sea Gulls. All told eleven different Salisbury players
scored over the 60 minutes

(Morton,
Pa./Ridley) takes the loss in net
as he made five saves. Chris Collins
(Westminster,
Md./Westminster)
relieved Keeler and made eight stops. For Salisbury, Zach Krissoff
earns the victory, making three saves while Nick Fiorentino made
five stops.
The Spartans close out their 2008 campaign on Tuesday, April 22,
with a non-conference tilt at Catholic. Game time is slated for
1:00 pm.
