SALISBURY, MD – The York College men's lacrosse fell
to #1 Salisbury University 25-4 in Capital
Athletic Conference action on Tuesday night in Salisbury, MD.
The top ranked Sea Gulls are now 10-0 overall and 4-0 in the
CAC while the Spartans fall to 6-4 overall and 2-2 in the
conference.
The highlight of the Spartan evening came early as Steve Roy
(Feasterville, Pa./Archbishop Wood) gave the green and white a 1-0
lead 1:36 into the game. It was pretty much downhill from there for
York. The Gulls scored the next five goals of the game before Roy
scored again with 1:53 remaining in the first. The hosts scored the
final two goals of the first quarter including their second man-up
goal of the period.
The second quarter was all Salisbury as they outscored the
Spartans 10-0. The Sea Gulls outshot York 23-3 in the period
while they held a 17-7 edge in ground balls for the quarter as they
took a 17-2 edge to the break.
Salisbury continued to roll in the third quarter, outscoring
York 4-0 as the lead grew to 21-2.
The Sea Gull lead ballooned to 25-2 before the green and white
got a pair of cosmetic goals in the final minute of the game.
Matt Hickman led the Gulls with 10 points on seven goals and
three assists. Patrick Bonanno added five points on four goals and
one assist while Jake DeLillo contributed three goals. Kylor
Berkman had four points on a goal and three assists while Mike
Winter was the fourth starter with multiple points as he had a goal
and one assist. Bruce Richardson and Stephen Krasco were two of the
reserves with multiple points as they both scored two goals and
handed out one assist.
Roy led the Spartans with a pair of goals while Chris Chappelle
(Stevensville, Md./Chesapeake) and Kalen Roundy (Ijamsville,
Md./Urbana) scored one goal each for the Spartans.
Riley Clark played half the game to earn the win for Salisbury.
He made three saves in 30 minutes for Salisbury as he allowed two
of the Spartans' four goals.
Senior goalkeeper Matt Keeler (Morton, Pa./Ridley) suffered the
loss as he allowed 13 goals in 25:58 of action. He made six saves
during his stint between the pipes.
Salisbury finished the game outshooting York 65-22 while they
also held a 49-22 edge in ground balls. York was penalized seven
times in the game and Salisbury made the Spartans pay as they
converted six of their seven extra man chances. York was 0-for-4 in
the man advantage for the game. Salisbury won 22 of the
game's 32 face offs while they missed on just one clear in
the contest.
Salisbury is now 94-0 all-time in conference play, 75-0 during
the conference regular-season. The Gulls have won their past 33
games since the start of 2007 and is 72-0 during the regular-season
and 66-0 at home since 2003.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday as they host St.
Mary's College in a non-conference contest. Game time is set
for 3:00 pm.
