YORK, PA- The York College women's
soccer team continued their winning ways on Saturday, defeating
visiting Wesley College 2-0. With goals from Erin
Kuhn (Turnersville, N.J. / Washington Township) and
Jenna Knaper (Red Lion, Pa. / Red Lion), the green
and white improve to 4-0 (1-0 CAC) while Wesley falls to 3-1 (0-1
CAC).
Pressing the Wolverines throughout the beginning
of the match, Kuhn tallied in the 20th minute off a pass from
Emily Sullivan (Bowie, Md. / Archbishop
Spalding). Sullivan found Kuhn with a beautiful feed
in front of Wesley's goal and the forward promptly one-timed
her shot past the oncoming goalkeeper inside the right post.
In the 35th minute, a hard tackle by a Wesley
defender resulted in a red card and a Spartan penalty-kick.
Knaper confidently stepped to the spot and slammed home her first
goal of the season giving the home squad a 2-0 advantage.
York continued to press the weary Wolverines
throughout the rest of the game but were unable to notch a third
tally.
On a day when temperatures rose above 90
degrees, the Spartans deep roster allowed the green and white to
constantly run fresh legs at the Wolverines. Resulting in
dominance on the offensive end, York registered 26 shots compared
to a meager two for the visitors. The Spartans also led in
corners 7-1.
Goalkeeper Meagan Cahill (Crofton, Md. /
Arundel) picked up her third win of the year in the Spartan net as
she notched one save en route to the shutout. Britanny Block
put on admirable performance in goal for Wesley as she recorded
nine saves on the afternoon.
A quick turnaround, York faces Virginia Wesleyan
on Sunday in a non-conference match-up. Kick-off is scheduled
for 2:00 pm at York's Graham Field.
