YORK, PA - The York College men's soccer team defeated
Lynchburg 1-0 in non-conference action on Saturday night in
Lynchburg, Va. Extending their unbeaten streak to 48
consecutive games, York is now 8-0 in 2007 while the Hornets drop
to 5-2-1.
The green and white wasted little time notching the only tally
of the contest as Matt Beale (Baltimore, Md. / Archbishop
Curley) scored in the 4th minute of action. Beale's
first goal of the campaign gave the Spartans a 1-0 advantage that
they would not relinquish.
Both sides battled throughout the rest of the match with York
gaining a slight edge in shots at 9-8. The Spartans also lead
in corner kicks 5-2.
Jon Ports (Baltimore, Md. / McDonogh) was a
very dangerous player on the pich as he created numerous chances
for the York side. Ports was responsible for two of
York's three shots on goal during the 90 minutes.
Kyle Marks (Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury) went the
distance in net for the Spartans registering two saves to preserve
the shutout. Lynchburg's Marcus Jordan kept his squad
in the match making a pair of saves
The green and white travel to Villa Julie on Wednesday, Sept. 26
for their second conference game of the season. Kick-off is
scheduled for 4:00 pm
