ST. MARY'S CITY, MD-The York College
men's lacrosse team dropped their third straight as the St.
Mary's College Seahawks posted an 11-4 Capital Athletic
Conference win over the Spartans. St. Mary's improves to 7-3
overall and 3-2 in the CAC while the Spartans fall to 2-5 and 1-2
in the league.
The Seahawks dominated the first half as they
scored two in the first and three more in the second to take the
5-0 lead to the break. St. Mary's outshot the Spartans 17-9
in the first two quarters while they won all seven face offs in the
half.
The second half wasn't much better for the
green and white as Ryan Alexander scored his fourth consecutive
goal to open the third quarter, putting the hosts up 6-0. York
finally got on the board with a Chris Chappelle (Stevensville,
MD/Chesapeake) goal at the 10:44 mark of the third quarter. The

lead to 9-1.
York got goals from Ryan Schab (West Islip,
NY/West Islip), Ryan McNicholas (Fallston, MD/Fallston), and Paul
Rudell (Lusby, MD/Patuxent) to open the fourth but it was a case of
too-little-too-late as the Spartans suffered their second straight
conference loss. St. Mary's tallied the final two goals of
the game to provide for the final margin.
Alexander finished the game with a match-high
five points on five goals while he also had five ground balls. Pat
Oliphant added three goals for the St. Mary's attack. John
Oliver was the third multiple point scorer for the hosts as he had
a goal and two assists. Long stick midfielder Michael Alcamo
captured 14 ground balls to pace the Seahawks.
York did not have a multiple point scorer in the
game. In addition to the goals from Chappelle, Schab, McNicholas,
and Rudell, Brendan Hopkins (Monrovia, MD/Urbana) and Mike
Klingerman (Chadds Ford, PA/Ridley) each had an assist.
Rich Barr started in goal for St. Mary's
and played 55:42 as he recorded 15 saves for the Hawks. Junior Matt
Keeler (Morton, PA/Ridley) notched 10 saves in goal for York.
St. Mary's outshot York 37-26 while they
held a significant 48-31 bulge in ground balls. The Seahawks
dominated the face offs as they won 15-of-17 contested face offs.
Both teams were bad on the man advantage as York was 0-for-9 while
St. Mary's was 1-for-7. St. Mary's one man advantage
conversion came with 35 seconds left in regulation. St.
Mary's committed 35 turnovers while York had 31 miscues.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday when
they host Villa Julie in a CAC contest. The match is slated to
begin at 3:30 pm.
