YORK, PA-The top-ranked Salisbury University
Sea Gulls marched into Kinsley Field and defeated the home standing
York College Spartans 27-2 in Capital Athletic Conference action on
a beautiful Tuesday afternoon in York. The Sea Gulls improve to
10-0 overall and 5-0 in the CAC while the Spartans fall to 2-4
overall and 1-1 in the CAC.
The Sea Gulls got off to a slow start as they
didn't score their first goal until the 11:10 mark. The
Spartans answered the goal with a Ryan Schab (West Islip, NY/West
Islip) tally off a Mike Klingerman (Chadds Ford, PA/Ridley) pass
with 8:20 remaining in the first quarter. The Sea Gulls scored the
final three goals of the period to take the 4-1.
In the second quarter, Salisbury tallied nine
goals, extending their run of answered goals to 12, taking a 13-1
lead to the break.
The maroon and gold continued the offensive
onslaught against the out-manned Spartans, scoring the first five
goals of the third period to take the 18-1 lead. Kyle Henninger
(Millers, MD/Hereford) picked up a man-advantage goal with 6:53
left in the third but it would York's final tally of the
game. Salisbury finished the game with two more third period goals
and then seven additional fourth period goals to provide for the
final margin.
Salisbury was led by Greg Titus as he tallied
five goals and one assist for six points. Kylor Berkman and Eric
Bishop each chipped in with two goals and two assists for four
points. The Sea Gulls had 15 players score a goal and 12 players
hand out at least one assist.
Schab and Henninger accounted for York's
goals.
Max Zarchin earned the win in goal for the Sea
Gulls. He recorded four saves in his 30 minutes of work. Riley
Clark played 26:31 as he allowed one goal. Tim Swinburn played the
final 3:29 and did not face a shot in the game.
Junior Matt Keeler (Morton, PA/Ridley) played
the first 42:04 for the Spartans as he allowed 20 goals while he
recorded nine stops for YCP. Senior Matt Hanson (Marriottsville,
MD/River Hill) relieved Keeler and allowed seven goals in his 17:56
of action. He had three saves for the game.
The Sea Gulls dominated every statistical
category in the game. They outshot York 54-19, had a 69-37 edge in
ground balls, won 22 of the 33 face offs in the game and also went
3-for-4 in the man advantage. York finished the game with 35
turnovers while Salisbury committed just 18.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday when
they trek to St. Mary's to face the Seahawks. Game time in
St. Mary's City is set for 1:00 pm.
