CARLISLE, PA-The York College men's
lacrosse team dropped a 13-4 non-conference decision at Dickinson
College on Wednesday afternoon in Carlisle, PA. The Spartans fall
to 2-3 overall while the Red Devils improve to 3-2.
The Red Devils outscored the Spartans 3-1 in the
opening quarter of play. The Spartans' goal came from Ryan
Schab (West Islip, NY/West Islip) with 5:32 left in the period.
York opened the second quarter scoring with a
Ryan McNicholas (Fallston, MD/Fallston) goal at the 12:56 mark. The
goal cut the Spartan deficit to 3-2 but the Red Devils scored the
final two goals before the half to take the 5-2 lead at the
half.
Dickinson put the game out of reach with six
unanswered goals to start the third quarter. York finally got a
man-advantage goal from Mike Klingerman (Chadds Ford, PA/Ridley)
with 4:33 remaining in the third quarter. Unfortunately for York,
the 11-3 deficit would be too much to overcome.
The hosts scored the first two goals of the
fourth quarter before Chris Chappelle (Stevensville, MD/Chesapeake)
closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal with 1:37 remaining
in the game.
Kevin Riley started in goal for the Red Devils
and recorded eight saves in his 45 minutes of action. Russell
Matthews relieved Riley and notched seven fourth quarter saves.
Junior Matt Keeler (Morton, PA/Ridley) made 18
stops in the loss as he falls to 2-3 for the year.
The Red Devils got a game-high five points from
Derek Still and Brian Mohler. Still had three goals and two assists
while Mohler had four goals and one helper. Ed Lawless added two
goals for Dickinson.
The Spartans received one goal each from Schab,
McNicholas, Klingerman, and Chappelle.
The Red Devils outshot the Spartans 47-25 in the
game while they also held a 51-33 advantage in ground balls.
Dickinson dominated York in face offs as they won 17 of the 21
contested face offs. York also struggled to clear the ball as they
failed on 10 of 27 attempts while Dickinson had three failures in
23 attempts. The Spartans finished the game with 20 turnovers while
the Red Devils had 17 miscues.
The Spartans are off until Tuesday when they
host #1 Salisbury University in a CAC contest. Game time at Kinsley
Field is slated for 3:30 pm.
