Spartans Remain Winless in CAC Play

SALISBURY, MD-The York College men's lacrosse team dropped their fourth Capital Athletic Conference contest of the year as the Spartans fell to Salisbury University 27-7 on Tuesday afternoon in York. Salisbury, who is ranked number one in the nation in Division III men's lacrosse, improves to 10-0 and 5-0 in the CAC while the Spartans fall to 2-5 and 0-4 in the CAC.
Salisbury established their dominance early as the Sea Gulls outscored YCP 10-1. Andy Arnold scored three goals and dished out three assists in the first quarter to lead Salisbury to the early advantage. The Gulls pushed the lead to 16-3 at the half, outscoring YCP 6-2 in the second quarter.
Salisbury shutout the Spartans 8-0 as they led 24-3 through three periods of play.
The Spartans outscored the Sea Gulls 4-3 in the fourth period as Andrew Collins (Olney, MD/Magruder) scored three straight in the quarter.
Sophomore Josh Papsan (Baltimore, MD/North County) and Collins formed the Spartan offense as Papsan notched four goals while Collins banged home three tallies. Ben Libertini (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) recorded the Spartans' lone assist in the game.
Arnold, Corey O'Neil and Dan Boyer led the Sea Gulls with three goals each. Arnold and O'Neil each added three assists for Salisbury.
The Sea Gulls outshot the Spartans 74-21 as the Spartan goalies made 20 saves for the game. Dave Welti Stroudsburg, PA/Hicksville) made 11 saves in two quarters of action for YCP. Matt Hanson (Marriottsville, MD/River Hill) made six saves in the third quarter while Dave Jacques (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) made three fourth period saves.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday afternoon as they host St. Mary's College in a CAC contest. Game time on Saturday is set for 1:00 pm.
