Marymount Hands York Third CAC Loss of the Year

ARLINGTON, VA-The York College men's lacrosse team dropped their third Capital Athletic Conference contest of the year as the Spartans fell to Marymount University 13-8 on Saturday afternoon in Arlington, VA. The Spartans fall to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in the CAC while Marymount improves to 2-7 and 1-2 in the CAC.
The two teams traded a goal in the opening half of the first quarter. The Saints then ended the first period with a pair of goals to take the 3-1 lead after one period of play. The squads went back-and-forth in the second quarter as each team tallied two goals with the Saints taking a 5-3 lead into the half.
The Spartans came roaring out of the half as they scored three goals in the opening three minutes to take a 6-5 lead. The Saints responded with four straight goals to take a 9-6 advantage. The green and white scored the final goal of the third quarter to trim the MU lead to 9-7 but that is as close as the Spartans would get the rest of the way. Marymount put the game away with three goals to open the fourth period as the lead grew to 12-7 with 9:37 remaining in the game. York tallied their final goal with 6:11 left before MU closed out the scoring with a late goal, providing for the final margin of victory.
Freshman Andrew Collins (Olney, MD/Magruder) led the Spartans with three goals and two assists. Sophomore standout Josh Papsan (Baltimore, MD/North County) had another stellar day with two goals, two assists, 11 ground balls and 13 of 25 face off wins for the game. Ben Bereznay (Red Lion, PA/Mt. Hebron) chipped in with two goals while Adam Cross (Westminster, MD/Westminster) dished out two assists.
Nick Hoefer and Kosta Troupos each tallied three goals and two assists to lead the Saints.
Spartan goalie Dave Welti (Stroudsburg, PA/Hicksville) recorded 12 saves for the game.
Marymount outshot the Spartans 42-32 while the Spartans held a 42-35 edge in ground balls.
The road for the Spartans doesn't get any easier as they travel to top-ranked Salisbury University for a CAC contest. The game is slated to start at 3:30 pm.
