Dickinson Bounces Spartans in Non-Conference Play

CARLISLE, PA-The York College men's lacrosse team had their losing streak reach five as the Spartans dropped a 16-7 decision to Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA on Wednesday afternoon.
The Spartans jumped out to an early lead as the green and white scored a pair of goals within 24 seconds of each other early in the first quarter. Ryan Wynne (Mt. Airy, MD/South Carroll) drew first blood for the Spartans at the 10:26 mark. Fellow senior Scott Hermes (New Freedom, PA/Mervo) scored at 10:02 to give the green and white the early advantage.
Unfortunately for York, that advantage would be short lived. Dickinson College dominated the game for the next 30 minutes as the Red Devils outscored the Spartans 11-0 over that span. Dickinson's Jordan Seiken tallied five goals during the run that began with a Seiken goal at 8:11 of the first quarter and closed out with a Greg Welch goal with 9:22 left in the third quarter. It was a run that has become familiar to the Spartans. York has been extremely competitive in almost all their losses in 2002 but it seems that one spurt always dooms the Spartans' chances at victory.
The Spartans stopped the Dickinson run with a Pat Wynne (Mt. Airy, MD/South Carroll) goal with 5:24 left in the third quarter. Wynne's goal began a spurt that saw the visitors score five of the next six goals to cut their deficit to 12-7 with 14:17 left in game. The Red Devils eliminated any thoughts of a further Spartan comeback as they scored the final four goals of the game for the final nine-goal difference.
Ryan Wynne led the green and white with four points on three goals and one assist. The Capital Athletic Conference's leading scorer Hermes was held to one goal. It is just the second time this season that Hermes has failed to score more than two goals in a game. Pat Wynne added a pair of goals for the Spartans while Brendan Brace (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) contributed a goal and an assist. Junior Jason Kemper (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) closed out the Spartan scoring with an assist.
The Red Devils received a game-high five goals from Seiken while Welch was the top point scorer with six as he had three goals and three assists. Jeremy Angell contributed five points with a goal and four assists for the hosts.
Spartan goalie Evan Mazzocchi (Swarthmore, PA/Strath Haven) made seven saves for YCP. Sean McGowan started for Dickinson and made four saves in 57 minutes of action. Kris Kogelschatz did not record a save as he played the final three minutes of the game for the Red Devils.
The Red Devils outshot the Spartans 36-15 while they held a 59-34 advantage in ground balls.
The Spartans, now 2-7, return to action on Saturday when they host St. Mary's College in their final CAC contest of the season. Game time at Spartan Field is set for 1:00 pm.
