Susquehanna Scores Late to Edge York 12-11

YORK, PA-The York College men's lacrosse team dropped a 12-11 barn-burner to Susquehanna University on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference contest at Spartan Field.
York jumped on the board just :30 seconds into the game as senior Scott Hermes (New Freedom, PA/Mervo) scored the game's first goal. The green and white followed that up with a goal from Pat Wynne (Mt. Airy, MD/South Carroll) just 2:04 later to give the Spartans an early 2-0 lead. Dan Howard scored for Susquehanna at 11:07 to make it a 2-1 game. Hermes scored his second goal of the game at 10:02 and Jason Kemper (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) followed that up with a goal of his own at the 6:27 mark. Susquehanna scored a late goal with 2:52 left in the first quarter before Hermes scored his third goal of the game and of that quarter to give York the 5-2 lead after one quarter of play.
Susquehanna was the more dominate team in the second quarter as they outscored the Spartans 4-2. The Crusaders received two goals from Scott Hodgson, and one from both Matt Miceli and Andy Nadler. The green and white received goals from Kemper and Pat Wynne in the period. The goals where the second from both players. This made the score 7-6 at the half with each team recording one period of dominate play.
Susquehanna started the scoring in the third at 12:44 as Hodgson recorded his third goal of the game to tie the score at 7-7. Both teams played a tightly contested next six minutes as both defenses dominated play. Pat Wynne broke the scoring drought at 6:35 with his third goal of the game off a nice pass from Kemper. This would be the only time in the third quarter that York would find the net as Susquehanna recorded the last two goals of the quarter off the stick of Hodgson. Hodgson's goal at 2:33 allowed Susquehanna to take their first lead of the game and go into the fourth quarter with a 9-8 lead.
The Crusaders pushed their lead to two with Dan St. Ours' second goal of the game at 14:47. Pat Wynne followed that up with a goal of his own at 13:43, to cut York's deficit to one. Susquehanna pushed their lead back to two with Nadler's second of the game. The Spartans were not done in this game as senior Ryan Wynne (Mt. Airy, MD/ South Carroll) buried one in the back of the net for his fourteenth goal of the year on Senior Day. Wynne's fellow senior Hermes had a huge goal at 3:35 to tie the score at 11 all. The goal was Hermes' 100th goal of his career and his first in the game since the 1:48 mark of the first quarter. Unfortunately for York, Susquehanna's Hodgson was not done, as he scored his sixth of the game at 1:29 and that proved to be the game-winner.
The green and white were led by the duo of Hermes and Pat Wynne. Both players recorded four goals apiece, the big one coming from Hermes as it tied the game late. Hermes now has 49 goals on the season and Pat Wynne has 17 goals this year. Kemper also had a good day for York as he recorded two goals and two assists. Kemper had an excellent day on face-offs as he won 17 of 22 for a blistering winning percentage of 77.2%. Ryan Wynne had one goal and one assist in his last home game.
Susquehanna was led by Hodgson as the sophomore recorded six goals to give him 27 on the season. Justin Mason contributed two goals while Miceli added a goal and a pair of assists.
York closes out their season on the road when they travel to the University of Scranton on Saturday, April 27th. Game time in Scranton is set for 3:00pm.
