Spartans Fall at Marymount in CAC Slugfest

ARLINGTON, VA-The York College men's lacrosse squad dropped a hard-fought 15-12 Capital Athletic Conference decision to Marymount University on Monday afternoon in Arlington, VA. The game was a make-up from last Wednesday's rainout.
The Saints jumped on the Spartans early as they scored three goals in the first three minutes of the game. The Spartans responded with a pair of tallies late in the quarter as senior standout Scott Hermes (New Freedom, PA/Mervo) scored a pair of goals, both off passes from fellow senior Ryan Wynne (Mt. Airy, MD/South Carroll), cutting the Marymount advantage to 3-2. The Saints scored with 49 seconds left in the period to take the 4-2 lead at the end of one.
The green and white opened the second quarter with a pair of goals to tie the game at four. It took the Saints just 14 seconds to re-take the lead as Brandon Sallee scored to give the hosts a 5-4 lead. York wouldn't go away as Hermes tied the game at five on a goal at the 7:01 mark. The Saints scored the last three goals of the period to take the 8-5 halftime lead.
Both teams scored seven goals in the second half, allowing the Saints' three-goal advantage to stand.
Hermes continued his outstanding campaign as he tallied six goals. Wynne was again solid with two goals and a team-high four assists. Freshman Pat Wynne (Mt. Airy, MD/South Carroll) added two goals and an assist while junior Jason Kemper (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) contributed a goal and two assists while junior Brendan Brace (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) closed out the scoring with a goal.
Sallee led the Saints with five goals and one assist while Ryan Spielman and Tim Lebsock each contributed two goals and one assist.
The Spartans outshot the Saints 42-41 while both teams collected 32 ground balls.
Spartan netminder Evan Mazzocchi (Swarthmore, PA/Strath Haven) made 18 saves for the Spartans. Justin Epstein also recorded 18 saves for the Saints.
York, now 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the CAC, returns to action on Wednesday, March 27, when they host Swarthmore in a non-conference game. Game time at Spartan Field is set for 3:30 pm.
