ST. MARY'S CITY, MD-The York College men's lacrosse team dropped their third straight as the St. Mary's College Seahawks handed the Spartans an 18-6 Capital Athletic Conference loss in St. Mary's City, MD on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans trailed early as the Seahawks riddled the green and white for seven goals in the opening quarter of play.
The hosts would eventually build that lead to 11-0 before the Spartans could get on the board. York would trail 12-2 at the half.
St. Mary's outscored the Spartans 6-4 in the second half to salt away the victory, their eighth of the 2001 campaign.
The Spartans were led by freshman Mike Mayo (Wilmington, DE/Sanford) as he tallied two goals. Trey King (Columbia, MD/South Carroll), Nick Smith (Crofton, MD/Arundel), Justin Johnson (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air), and Ryan Wynne (Mt. Airy, MD/South Carroll) each added a goal for the Spartans. Scott Hermes (New Freedom, PA/Mervo) tallied two assists while King and Jason Kemper (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) each added one helper.
Ryan Heacock led the Seahawks with four goals and two assists. Steve Vallandingham added three goals and three assists while Andrew Toussaint chipped in with two goals and three assists.
York, now 2-7 and 1-4 in the CAC, return to action on Wednesday when they host Western Maryland in a non-conference contest. Game time is 3:30 pm.
