Marymount Downs Spartans in High Scoring CAC Affair

YORK, PA-The Marymount University Saints used a six-goal fourth quarter to secure a tough 16-11 victory over the scrappy York College Spartans in Capital Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action Thursday afternoon at Spartan Field.
The Saints jumped on the Spartans early as they held a 3-1 lead after one quarter of play. The visitors pushed the lead to 5-1 with two quick goals to open the second quarter. The Spartans stormed back with four goals in a 2:07 span to tie the game at five. The teams would then exchange goals prior to the half as they went to the intermission tied at six.
York played inspired lacrosse to start the second half as Brendan Brace (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) scored with 12:09 left in the third period and Ryan Wynne (Mt. Airy, MD/South Carroll) recorded a goal at the 8:11 mark, giving the Spartans an 8-6 lead. Marymount responded with three goals in a three minute span to recapture the lead. Wynne scored his third goal of the game with 1:45 remaining in the period but Bobby Evans scored just 42 seconds later to give the Saints a 10-9 lead going into the final period.
York received a fourth goal from Wynne just 1:48 into the fourth quarter but it would be all Saints from there as they outscored York 6-1 the rest of the way.
Marymount was led by Evans as the sophomore tallied seven points on six goals and one assist. Brandon Salle added three goals and one assist while Stephen Milano chipped in with two goals and one assist.
The Spartans were led by Wynne as the junior recorded four goals while Brace added three goals. Scott Hermes (New Freedom, PA/Mervo) contributed two goals and one assist.
Justin Epstein earned the win in goal for the Saints as he made 11 saves in his 30 minutes of work. York's Evan Mazzocchi (Swarthmore, PA/Strath Haven) made 16 saves on 38 Marymount shots.
York, now 2-7 and 1-4 in the CAC, return to action on Saturday when they travel to St. Mary's for a CAC contest. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
