Spartans Close out CAC Regular Season with Setback Against SMC

YORK, PA - The York College men's lacrosse team lost their last Capital Athletic Conference home game of the season as the St. Mary's College Seahawks downed the Spartans 20-3 in conference action on Saturday in York.

The Spartans found themselves down early as the green and white trailed 7-1 after the opening quarter of play. The Spartans weren't able to get any closer as the Seahawks pushed the lead to 11-2 at the half.

The second half welcomed not only more scoring from St. Mary's but also a cold rain falling from the darkening skies. The Seahawks tacked on another six goals in the third and closed out the scoring with three more goals in the fourth to make the final 20-3.

Andrew Toussaint led the Seahawks with six points on four goals and two assists. Steve Vallandingham added four goals while Todd Sody also notched four points on two goals and two assists. Jim England added three goals as the Seahawks improve to 8-3 and 5-1 in the CAC.

The Spartans received goals from Scott Hermes (New Freedom, PA/Baltimore Poly HS)Jason Kemper (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air HS), and Evan O'Brien (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa HS)Bill Bryson (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly HS) notched the Spartans' lone assist.

York's netminder Colin Johnson (Hellam, PA/Lower Merion HS) was peppered with 56 shots as he made 16 saves and allowed 20 goals. Ben Frank notched five saves on 19 Spartan shots in goal for St. Mary's.

York, now 2-8 and 1-5 in the CAC, return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Marymount University in the opening round of the 2000 Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. Game time will be determined on Monday afternoon.
