Men's Lacrosse Closes Out Inaugural Season with 16-10 Loss at DIckinson

CARLISLE, PA - The York College men's lacrosse team concluded their 2000 campaign with a tough 16-10 non-conference loss to Dickinson College on Friday afternoon in Carlisle, PA.

The Spartans fell behind early as the Red Devils notched the first two goals and four of the first five tallies of the contest. The Red Devils outscored the green and white 5-3 in the second period to take a 9-5 halftime lead. The two teams each scored two goals in the third before Dickinson outscored York 5-3 in the fourth to forge the final tally.

The Spartans were paced by the trio of Bob Lutz (Medford, NJ/Shawnee HS)Tom Spray-Fry (Chestertown, MD/Kent County HS), and Scott Hermes (New Freedom, PA/Baltimore Poly HS). Lutz and Spray-Fry each notched three goals while Hermes had a goal and an assist. Bill Bryson (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly HS) added two points on a goal and an assist while Evan Mazzocchi (Swarthmore, PA/Strath Haven HS) chipped in with a goal.

The Spartans outshot the Red Devils 33-26 but the hosts made the most of their opportunities as they converted 62% of their shots.

Colin Johnson (Hellam, PA/Lower Merion HS) earned seven saves in goal for the green and white.

Jack Miner led the Red Devils as he scored a game-high nine points on seven goals and two assists. Matt McFarland added six points on two goals and four assists.

The Spartans ended their inaugural season with a record of 3-10 and 1-5 in the Capital Athletic Conference. The Spartans will graduate four seniors and return the remainder of the roster for 2001.
