Spartans Fall to Saints in First CAC Tournament Game

ARLINGTON, VA - The York College men's lacrosse squad traveled to Marymount on Tuesday to make history as they appeared in the their first ever Capital Athletic Conference post-season tournament. Despite a gallant effort, the Spartans dropped the game to the third-seeded Marymount Saints 12-7. The Spartans entered the tournament as the sixth seed.

York's first goal came from junior Bob Lutz (Medford, NJ/Shawnee HS) off an assist from freshman Jason Kemper (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air HS). The Spartans were able to hold their own in the first period as the Saints scored two goals to the Spartans' one. The game began to slip away from York in the second quarter as the Saints tallied four goals while the Spartans notched two tallies.

The Saint's defense seemed to be inpenitrable as the Spartans were only able to squeeze off just 19 shots while the Saints fired 42. Because of this, York was unable to match the force of Marymount's offense. The Saints received six goals in the second half from six different players.

Offensively, the Spartans were lead by freshman Brendan Brace (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage HS) with one goal and three assists. Junior Bill Bryson (Fairfax, VA/, Chantilly HS) contributed two goals to the Spartans attack.

Marymount goalkeeper Justin Epstein had 7 saves on the game, while York's goalie Colin Johnson (Hellam, PA/Lower Merion HS) had an impressive 17 saves for the contest.

Marymount will advance to the semi-finals to face St. Mary's while York will return home to host Eastern College on Tuesday, April 18th. (Megan Fitzgerald-Sports Information Intern)
