STEVENSON, MD - The York College men's lacrosse team dropped their second straight contest as Villa Julie College downed the Spartans 21-2 in non-conference action in Stevenson, MD on Wednesday afternoon.
The Spartans trailed early as the Mustangs took a 7-1 lead after the first quarter as Bill Bryson (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly HS) scored the Spartans lone goal. Villa Julie built their lead up to 13-1 at the half as they shutout the visitors in the second quarter.
York held Villa Julie to four goals in both the third and fourth quarters but it was not enough as the offense could only muster a third quarter Scott Hermes (New Freedom, PA/Baltimore Poly HS) goal.
The Mustangs were led by the trio of Rob Ruff, Stu King and Greg Bardzik as they each scored four goals. Josh Zennaro led all scorers with five points on one goal and four assists.
Villa Julie outshot York 52-19 and converted one of their four extra man chances while the Spartans were 0-8 on the power play.
Colin Johnson (Hellam, PA/Lower Merion HS) notched 15 saves on the 52 Mustang shots while Kjeld Laurizen notched 11 saves in goal for VJC.
The Spartans, now 0-2, travel to Western Maryland on Saturday afternoon for another non-conference matchup before making their home debut on Wednesday against Goucher. Game time for the Western Maryland matchup is set for 1:30 while the Goucher match is set to begin at 3:00 pm
