Men's Lacrosse Notches Big Home Victory over Susquehanna

YORK, PA - The York College men's lacrosse team hosted Susquehanna University at Spartan Field in a non-conference game Wednesday afternoon and came away with the first home victory in school history as they downed the Crusaders 14-5.

The Spartans took a commanding lead in the first period as they ran past the Crusaders to score four goals. The run was sparked by freshman Brandon Brace (Bel Air,MD/Bel Air HS) who scored the first goal with 14:51 left to go in the period. His teammates were eager to follow as David Larson (Dover/, DE/Dover HS) added goal one off an assist from Brace and Scott Hermes (New Freedom, PA/Baltimore Poly) contributed two goals with an assists from Evan O'Brien (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa HS) as well as another helper from Brace.

The second period the Crusaders decided to stand up for their cause as they went on to score two goals in the period. However, their efforts fell short when the second half began as the Spartans held a 2-1 goals scored advantage in the third quarter. The lone goal for Susquehanna in the third period came from Andy Nadler off an assist from Rob McNamara. Nadler was the only Crusader to score in the fourth period as well, he tallied two markers.

York was on fire in the fourth period as Bill Bryson (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly HS) scored the final goal of the game with 2:26 to go and the Spartans walked off Spartan Field with their second victory of the season. The outstanding defense that the Spartans played was once again lead by goalie Colin Johnson (Hellam, PA/Lower Merion). Johnson had 22 saves while his counterpart, Bill Thomas, made 11 saves for the Crusaders.

For the game, Hermes, Larson, and Bryson each recorded three goals while Hermes and Brace each notched four assists.

York, now 2-6, return to action on Saturday when they travel to Neumann College in a non-conference contest. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
