WESTMINSTER, MD - The York College men's lacrosse team saw their record fall to 0-3 as the Western Maryland Green Terror handed the Spartans a 29-3 non-conference loss in Westminster, MD on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans never really seemed to be in the game as they trailed 12-0 at the end of the first quarter and 18-0 at the half. The Spartans have now been outscored 45-3 in the opening halves of their three games this season.
The green and white trailed 24-0 before David Larson (Dover, DE/Dover HS) tallied his first career goal off a pass from Scott Hermes (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly HS) with 13 seconds remaining in the third quarter, getting the Spartans on the board.
The Spartans tacked on their other two goals in the fourth quarter as Trey King (Columbia, MD/South Carroll HS) tallied his first collegiate goal with 8:43 remaining in the game. King's goal was assisted by Cory Peck (Magnolia, DE/Dover HS), Peck's first collegiate assist. The third Spartan goal came off the crosse of Brendan Brace (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage HS) with 55 seconds left in the game. Brace's goal was unassisted.
Colin Johnson (Hellam, PA/Lower Merion HS) was peppered with 42 shots in the Spartan goal as the Green Terror outshot the visitors 42-16. Johnson notched 14 saves while he allowed the 29 goals.
Tom Brown led the Green Terror with seven goals while Brett Sweeney, Mike Griffin, and Tyler Mercer each banged in three goals. Joe Ellis led the Green Terror with five assists.
The Spartans, now 0-3, make their home debut on Wednesday afternoon when they host Goucher College in the first varsity contest at YCP. Game time is set for 3:00 pm.
