YORK, PA – The York College women's soccer squad opened their 2025 MAC Commonwealth slate with a 1-0 win over Albright on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in York.
The Spartans made it exciting with a goal with 3:01 left in regulation, lifting them to a league win in the opener.

How It Happened
• The Spartans carried the play throughout the first half but had absolutely nothing to show for it. York had a pair of apparent goals called back due to offsides calls. While the offense was pressuring the Lions, the defense was holding their guests at bay.
• York finished the first half with a 10-0 bulge in total shots while they a 3-0 margin in shots on goal and a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
• The Spartans continued to dominate the second half as they peppered junior Lion goalie Paisley Tornatore, who came in relief of starter Alexis Solf to start the second half. Tornatore made nine second half saves as she was outstanding at keeping the Spartans off the board until late.
• The Spartans had penalty kick attempt in the 85
th minute but the attempt sailed wide. York then got the game winner just over two minutes later as the Spartans got the ball into the box. The Lions failed to clear the ball and junior captain
Jess Bentzel was in the right place at the right time, putting home the chance for the one-goal victory.
• York finished the game with a 23-0 bulge in total shots including 10-0 in shots on goal. The Spartans also had an 11-0 margin in corner kicks for the match. In fact, the Lions did not have any offensive touches in their own box, marking another stout Spartan defensive effort.
