Women’s Soccer Keeps Streaking with Win at Widener

CHESTER, Pa. - The York women's soccer team matched a program record with their seventh-straight win while punching their ticket to the Commonwealth postseason in a 2-0 victory at Widener on Saturday.

Team Records
York 12-3-2 (5-0-0 MACC)
Widener 6-7-3 (1-4-0 MACC)

How It Happened
York wasted little time getting on the board as Abby Brown found the back of the net for the second time this season in the sixth minute of play. The Spartans set up for a corner kick with Brown set to serve the ball in from the left corner and the senior struck the ball with just the right touch to send it curling inside the right post.

The Spartans continued to throw everything they had at the goal throughout the first half as they racked up an 11-0 shot margin with a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks. After letting up the early goal to Brown, Widener goalkeeper Araba Abanyie stood tall and frustrated the Spartans with six saves to maintain the one-goal deficit at halftime.

The Green and White continued to impose their will on the Pride in the second half and punched in another tally in the 79th minute on another corner set piece. Carissa Baugus swung the ball in from the right corner to the middle of the box where Mackenzie Hanley ran in and lunged towards the goal while redirecting the ball into the net for second goal of the season.
