How It Happened
• After a quick opening inning for both starters, the Spartans got two singles to open the inning only to have Hood's Skylar Albright get the next three Spartans to escape any damage in the inning. York was not nearly as fortunate in the bottom of the inning. Spartan starter Evan Hughes started the inning with a ground out but the Blazers got a single, and error and a sacrifice bunt to put runners at second and third with two outs. Matthew Stout singled, scoring a pair of unearned runs after York should have been out of the inning.
• Both starters cruised through the next four innings as neither team was able to get anything going offensively. The Blazers fashioned a big seventh inning to put the Spartans away. The Blazers loaded the bases with one out. York went to the pen but the Blazers got a two runs on a Keegan Brennan single, pushing the lead to 4-0. Stephen Sommer made it 5-0 with a sacrifice fly while Jacob Saylor and Alex Jenkins each had RBI singles to give the Blazers a 7-0 bulge.
• The Green and White got a Gabe Trevena double and a Michael Tinneny single with one out to put Spartans at the corners. Hood made a call to the bullpen and Remi Schaber came in to get a strikeout and a ground out to preserve the shut out.
• York got a pair of runners on in the ninth but they failed to score as they were shutout for the first time this year.
