Bonus Points Powers York Past Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Spartan men's wrestling team claimed five victories, all with bonus points, in a 26-19 road win over Messiah on Friday night.

After taking a 10-6 lead through four bouts, the Spartans ripped off three-straight wins to clinch their first victory over their intra-county rivals since 2019. Dawson Miller sealed the win for the Green and White with a dominant 18-0 triumph over Asa Brunk at 141 lbs. which put the Spartans up 26-6 with three bouts to go.

How It Happened
  • Jared Townsend gave York the lead right out of the gates with a 10-0 win over John Sumner at 174 pounds. Townsend scored three takedowns and compiled over two minutes of riding time in his shutout win.
  • With a 9-1 lead late into the third period, Camden Farrow decided he wanted to go for more and pinned Micah Kunkle to his back with 43 seconds left. Farrow had already secured bonus points before getting the fall with over two minutes of riding time and three takedowns against Kunkle.
  • Jared Kuhns started the run of three-consecutive Spartan wins which ultimately sealed the dual for York. Kuhns was relentless with five takedowns and three tilts in a 22-4 technical fall over Caiden Heller at 125 lbs.
  • After Dalton Rohrbaugh received a forfeit at 133 pounds, Dawson Miller went out and seized the opportunity to clinch the dual victory for his squad at 141. After a 2-0 through one period of wrestling, Miller started the second on top and proceeded to tilt Brunk four times on his way to the dual-clinching 18-0 technical fall.
  • The Falcons earned a moral victory by winning the last three bouts, highlighted by a first-period fall from Garrett Cornell in the last match of the night.
