#6 Spartans to Battle #7 Stevenson for MAC Commonwealth Title

YORK, Pa. - The No. 2 seed York College men's lacrosse team will face No. 1 Stevenson Saturday night for the MAC Commonwealth Championship at Mustang Stadium.

How They Got Here

  • York defeated third-seeded Eastern, 15-11, in the semifinals to advance to the title game. The Spartans erased a two-goal first quarter deficit, going on an eight-goal run. Brendan O'Sullivan led the way with six goals while three other players netted at least two goals. Vinny Facciponti went 20-for-30 at the face-off X and picked up eight ground balls while Jack Michael totaled eight saves in net.

  • Stevenson downed fourth-seeded Widener, 14-8, en route to the MAC Commonwealth championship. The Mustangs had six different players record at least three points in the win while senior Matt Wilson recorded seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. In net, senior Marc Poust recorded his fourth straight game with at least 10 saves.

Scouting the Spartans

  • York owns a +13.0 average scoring margin which ranks first in the MAC Commonwealth and top-10 nationally. The Spartans also lead the conference and rank top-15 nationally in scoring offense (18.86 gpg), while ranking top-5 nationally with the conference's top scoring defense (5.86 gpg).

  • The Spartans are the only team in the conference averaging double-digit assists per game as their 10.93 apg average ranks top-15 nationally. Their total of 153 assists ranks top-10 in the nation.

  • York has caused 186 turnovers this season which ranks second in the MAC Commonwealth and sixth in the nation.

  • Brendan O'Sullivan leads the Spartans in goals (50) and points (56) as he ranks first in the MAC Commonwealth in goals and top-15 nationally. He is also second in the conference in points. O'Sullivan is 13th in program history with 80 career goals.

  • Dylan Wolf ranks fifth in the conference this season with 32 goals and Will Harnick is sixth with 29 goals. Wolf (4th - 46) and Harnick (T-7th - 39) also rank top-10 in the conference in points this season. Wolf ranks 15th in program history with 115 career points.

  • Michael Russo ranks third in the conference with a team-leading 23 assists on the season, while Eric Ranck (T-7th - 17), Dylan Wolf (T-10th - 14) and Jacob Wilhelm (T-10th - 14) also rank inside the Commonwealth's top-10. Wolf is tied for 13th in program history with 48 career assists.

  • Vinny Facciponti ranks first in the MAC Commonwealth in face-offs won (189-for-287), while leading the conference in face-off percentage (.659) among the 10 players with at least 100 face-offs taken. Facciponti also ranks 13th nationally in face-off percentage among players with at least 200 face-offs taken.

  • Ethan Greene leads York and ranks third in the MAC Commonwealth with 29 caused turnovers on the season, while Ryan Kennedy is fourth in the conference with 26 and Tyler Nation is tied for ninth with 16. Kennedy is fourth in program history 68 caused turnovers and Nation is seventh with 55. Kennedy and Greene both tied the program's single-game record this season with six.

  • Jack Michael leads the MAC Commonwealth in goals-against average (5.70) and save percentage (.676). He owns the second-best goals-against average and third-best save percentage in the nation among goalies with at least 500 minutes played. Michael also has a pair of shutout appearances this season having played 30 minutes in each of those appearances. He has three double-digit save performances this season, including a career-high 16 save performance in a 20-6 victory over Widener in which he only played 53 minutes.

Scouting the Mustangs

  • Stevenson ranks second in the MAC Commonwealth with a +7.4 average scoring margin on the season with the conference's fourth-best scoring offense (14.36 gpg) and the second-best scoring defense (7.13 gpg). The Mustangs have not allowed more than 10 goals in a game in all eight games this season while offensively netting at least 10 goals in every games.

  • The Mustangs rank second in the conference behind the Spartans with a .593 face-off percentage on the season. Stevenson ranks third in caused turnovers per game (12.38) and sixth in ground balls per game (35.0)

  • Jacob Tatum leads the Mustangs in goals (25) this season as he ranks fourth in the conference in goals per game (3.13). Tatum also leads Stevenson in points (36), while ranking third in the conference with 4.50 points per game. Connor Nelson is fifth in the conference in points per game (4.13) with 33 in eight games and leads the Mustangs with 14 assists on the year.

  • Shiloh Shassian (100 FO taken) and Andrew Trope (90 FO taken) have split duties at the face-off X this season. Shassian is second in the conference with a .620 win percentage, while Trope owns a .589 win percentage.

  • Matt Wilson paces the Mustangs with 20 caused turnovers on the season and ranks third in the conference with 2.50 per game. He also ranks ninth in the conference with 3.50 ground balls per game.

  • Marc Poust has been the mainstay in goal for the Mustangs this season. He ranks third in the conference in save percentage (.593) and second in goals-against average (6.81) among goalies with at least 400 minutes played.

Head to Head

  • The Mustangs handed the Spartans their only loss of the season in an 11-8 game on April 23. After trailing at halftime, Stevenson pitched a third-quarter shutout with five unanswered goals which propelled the Mustangs to victory as they out-scored the Spartans, 10-4, in the second half.

  • Brendan O'Sullivan led York with four goals in the previous meeting this season, while Jacob Tatum paced the Mustangs with five points on three goals and two assists. Jack Michael recorded just five saves for York in the loss, while Marc Poust had a 13-save performance in goal for Stevenson.

  • York is 4-15 all-time against Stevenson in the all-time series dating back to 2009. Three of York's wins have come at Mustang Stadium as the Spartans have won three of the last four meetings on Stevenson's home turf.

Spartans in the Championship Game

  • York will be making its sixth conference championship game appearance in program history, including their fifth-straight appearance in as many opportunities.

  • The Spartans are 1-4 in previous championship games having faced Salisbury in all five games. York's lone victory came in 2016 with a 10-9 win on the road over the No. 1 ranked Sea Gulls.
