Box Score YORK, Pa. - The fourth-ranked York College men's lacrosse team stifled the MAC Freedom's top scoring offense as the Spartans rolled to a 20-5 victory Friday night at Kinsley Field.
Team Records
Misericordia 6-3
#4/4 York 10-0
How it happened
After some uncharacteric miscues by York and a lot of early unsettled play, the Spartans eventually gained their footing with a pair of quick goals by Dylan Wolf and Eric Ranck just past the midway point of the first quarter. York would go on to score three more goals in the final four minutes of the quarter, including a tally from defenseman Ryan Kennedy on a shot taken from beyond the midfield line.
The Spartans averaged a goal per minute through the first four minutes of the second quarter, led by a pair of tallies by Will Harnick. York completely dominated the time of possession in the second quarter, winning seven of eight face-offs and out-shooting Misericordia, 26-8. Additionally, the Spartan defense completely shutdown the high-powered Cougar offense. Goalie Jack Michael recorded four more saves to go along with the six he made in the first quarter as he and the defense pitched their second-straight first-half shutout.
York continued to stifle the Misericordia offense in the second half as the Spartans went 10-for-14 on the face-off and held the Cougars to just 18 second-half shots, while York ripped off 36.
Up next
The Spartans are scheduled to return to play next Friday at 7 p.m. with rival Stevenson in a nationally-ranked showdown in Owings Mills, Md.
