Box Score YORK, Pa. - The seventh-ranked York College men's lacrosse team established program records for goals and margin of victory in Saturday's 28-1 victory at King's (Pa.).
How it happened:
The Spartans (2-0) capitalized on the abundance of Monarch (0-2) miscues to take a 5-0 lead in the opening quarter as King's turned the ball over 10 times in the first 15 minutes. Ethan Greene played a big role in the turnover battle as he caused three in the opening frame. The York big guns of Brendan O'Sullivan, Will Harnick and Eric Ranck accounted for the goals in the opening quarter.
After losing the faceoff battle in the first quarter, Vinny Facciponti got back on track in the second quarter as he went 7-for-9 and it paid dividends for the Spartans as they out-scored the Monarchs 8-1 in the frame. Eight different Spartans scored in the quarter, including a key goal by Greene which extended the Spartan lead to 10 with just over a minute left in the half. Ranck and Harnick added back-breaking tallies in the final minute to take a 13-1 lead into the locker room.
York again took advantage of its opponent's mistakes as the Monarchs committed 10 turnovers for the third-straight quarter, nullifying their 6-for-11 effort on the faceoff. The Spartans took every inch and gained a mile each time as they out-scored King's 10-0 in the quarter. York once again spread the wealth as nine different players recorded a tally in the quarter.
York managed to once again get all levels of its depth valuable playing time and again, the Spartans relished in the opportunity. First-year Spartans Eric Evensen and Cole Witman both tallied their first points for York in the fourth quarter, while freshman netminder Jack Keller posted a clean sheet with two saves as he played the entire fourth quarter.
