Field Hockey Earns Their Fifth Straight Win

Spartans secure the second seed in the upcoming Commonwealth Tournament

ST. DAVID'S, PA – The York College field hockey team extended their win streak to five with a 3-0 MAC Commonwealth win at Eastern University on Saturday morning in St. David's, PA.
The Spartans clinched the number two seed in the upcoming MAC Tournament and will host the three seed in the semifinals on Wednesday, November 3.

How It Happened
• The Spartans wasted little time in getting on the board. After a pair of early shots off the stick of Hannah Huffman, the Spartans earned a penalty corner 5:28 into the opening quarter. Riley Buschert inserted the corner to the top of the circle where Huffman unleashed a rocket. Buschert stepped in and tipped the pass into the cage for the 1-0 lead. The goal was Buschert's third goal of the year.
• York made it 2-0 with just 1:45 left in the opening quarter. The Spartans got a long outlet from Julea Truskey to Sarah Burton. Burton carried it down the near sideline before slipping a pass to Sam Collis who was streaking down the middle of the field. Collis carried it into the circle and sent a pass to Anna Simoes on the right win. Simoes one-timed a shot inside the far left post for the 2-0 lead. The goal was Simoes first collegiate tally.
• The second quarter was much quieter offensively as there was four total shots in the quarter with York taking three of those shots. York had the lone penalty corner in the quarter.
• York outshot the Eagles 9-6 in the opening half while both teams had three corners.
• The Spartans closed out the scoring in the 38th minute of the game. Maggie Spadafora took the initial shot off a redirect but that was saved. However, the crafty freshman captured the rebound and flicked a beautiful backhand floater over the goalie's head for the 3-0 lead. The goal was Spadafora's seventh of the year.
• The Eagles did pressure the Spartans in the fourth with a trio of shots but Spartan netminder Kaitlyn Wallace was up to the task with three saves in the final 15 minutes of the game.
