Huffman Scores Twice as Win Streak Reaches Six

Spartans post third straight shutout with 5-0 win over Hood

YORK, PA  – The York College field hockey team pushed their win streak to six with their third straight shutout as they blanked Hood College 5-0 in their home finale on Wednesday. The six-match win streak is the second of the season for the Spartans who began 2021 with six consecutive victories.

Score: York 5, Hood 0
Records: York 14-3 (7-1 MACC), Hood 5-12 (0-8 MACC)

How It Happened
• The Spartans got on the board a mere 1:41 into the game as Hannah Huffman dribbled the ball from beyond the circle into the heart of the defense where she flicked a shot into the goal for the 1-0 Spartan lead. Huffman struck again just under four minutes later as Sam Collis slipped a pass inside to Huffman who one-timed a shot past the Hood keeper for the 2-0 lead.
• York dominated the remainder of the first quarter but would be unable to add to the lead. The Green and White had 16 first quarter shots and 10 penalty corners but came away with just the two goals. Hood keeper Richana Brown had something to do with that as she had eight first quarter saves.
• York made it 3-0 just before the half as Mya Gerena slipped a pass to Collis who tipped in the feed for her eighth goal of the year with 1:41 remaining in the first half.
• The Spartans kept rolling in the third quarter as they continued to pepper Brown with shot after shot. The Green and White struck for their fourth goal with eight seconds left in the quarter as Libby Wild fired a pass to the backside post where senior Sarah Burton deposited the ball in the cage for her fifth goal of the year.
• York closed out the scoring in the fourth as Maggie Spadafora scored off a huge scrum in front of the cage with 4:27 left in the game. It was her eighth goal of the year.
• York out shot Hood 41-0 with 24 of those shots coming on cage. The Spartans also had a 23-0 bulge in penalty corners.
