How It Happened

• The game was back and forth from the opening tip. The Dutchmen led 10-7 on a Veronica Venezia lay up with 5:07 left in the half. Senior Logynn Fuller hit a pair of three pointers giving York a 13-10 lead. Those threes fueled a 10-2 run that gave York a 17-12 lead after one quarter of play.

• The Spartans then went ice cold from the field to start the second quarter. York was held scoreless for the opening 5:30 of the period. Fortunately for the Spartans, LVC wasn't much better as they had only scored seven points during that same stretch. York tied the game at 19 on a Victoria Varner bucket but the Dutchmen ripped off a 7-0 run to take a 26-19 lead. The Spartans cut the lead to five before the Dutchmen scored two of the final three points of the half to take a 28-22 lead to the break. York was a woeful 1-for-8 from the floor in the quarter and an equally poor 3-for-9 from the stripe as they scored just five points over the ten-minute period. LVC scored 11 points off of York miscues in the quarter.

• The Dutchmen pushed the lead to nine in the opening minutes of the second half thanks to a Venezia lay-up and a Morgan Bamberger three sandwiched around a Sammie Matteo jumper. Matteo hit a lay up before Emily Mealey hit a pair of free throws as the Dutchmen lead stood at 35-26 with 6:18 left in the third. York ripped off a 9-0 run with three pointers from Kayla Ferris, Alana Bortner, and Lindsay Brown, tying the game at 35. The Dutchmen regained their balance and outscored York 8-3 the rest of the quarter to give LVC a 43-38 lead heading to the fourth.

• The Dutchmen maintained the lead most of the fourth quarter, pushing it to a quarter high of seven points twice during the period with the second time coming with exactly five minutes left in the game. The Green and White answered in a big way as they went on a 10-2 run capped with a Katie McGowan three pointer with 3:01 left in the game. That set the stage for a furious final stage of the game.

• The teams exchanged fruitless possessions and then LVC had a prolonged chance to take the lead. The Dutchmen missed four straight shots but they pulled in four straight offensive rebounds before Mealy was fouled with 1:10 left on the clock. Mealey made two free throws to give LVC a one-point lead. York came up empty on their next possession and York was forced to foul. Ashley Kline nailed the first one but missed the second as York rebounded the miss. After a timeout, York again came up empty as Ferris' shot just rimmed out. York forced a turnover, getting the ball back for a tying attempt. Fuller tied the game with 11.3 seconds left as she hit a long two with her foot on the line from the right wing, tying the game at 59.

• After an LVC timeout, the Dutchmen had Anne Lehr attempt to win the game as she drove to the basket. McGowan came up with a big-time block from the weak side as the ball flew out of bounds with 1.1 seconds left. As the Dutchmen inbounded the ball, Lehr found Mealey behind the three-point line and the forward let it fly. The ball was in the air as the horn went off and splashed through the net for the winner. Mealey had been 3-for-16 from three before the game-winner.
